Easily compare the emissions of your vehicle

Concept

The greenhouse gas emissions of an electric or internal combustion engine vehicle can only be compared on a life cycle basis.

This comparison may rapidly become complex, as it involves many assumptions such as total mileage, consumption, production phase emissions, as well as battery’s size and origin and range for a battery-electric vehicle. The two main objectives of the Climobil calculator are:

  1. Simplify these calculations, by providing a database of vehicles
  2. Allow anyone to access the main parameters of the interactive model

Quickstart

Vehicles

Choose as many vehicles as you want, diesel, gasoline, battery-electric, hybrid or hydrogen.

Energy

You can then choose the mix of electricity used to charge batteries, as well as the source of hydrogen if relevant.

Done!

You can then adjust most parameters by clicking on “advanced parameters”.

Understand the results

Per-km emissions

Represented as a bar chart, per-km emissions include emissions from a vehicle’s life cycle scaled down to 1 km.

Total emissions

Total emissions are represented over the lifetime of the vehicle, including production (chassis, body, engine, battery if applicable) and use (extraction and refining of fuel, combustion, electricity production if relevant, maintenance).

Frequently asked questions

A vehicle's life-cycle emissions include those from the energy supply chain, as well as any direct emissions from fuel combustion. Well-to-tank emissions include all emissions from extraction, refining, transportation, etc. of various energy carriers, while tank-to-wheel emissions include substances emitted directly from the vehicle (e.g. combustion emissions).
